It was warm out. Incredibly warm. Summer was finally kicking into full gear and for the first time in a long time she was able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine! She was even able to wear appropriate clothing like shorts, tank tops, and dresses! her mother had come by a couple weeks ago to take her shopping, Shelby coming along too since they had both wanted to make sure Lizzie spoiled herself rotten. It was good they'd come along, she'd have just bought a simple pare of shorts and shirt for the entire summer verses the entire wardrobe they had convinced her to take.

Having these clothes allowed her to be comfortable outside, she wasn't trapped indoors with the air conditioning for fear of hear stroke!

Smiling as she thought about the 'girls day' Lizzie let the soft breeze rock her in the hammock, sun shining down. Over the past couple days she had started to get a light tan, her skin looking healthier than before, not to mention the cast on her arm was now gone so there wasn't going to be no awkward marks. Not that she even really cared but anymore the small things just made her happy! Anything that hadn't been able to be enjoyed before Justin could be thoroughly appreciated now that Justin was in her life. The sun, a tan, shorts, sleeping in, having breakfast made for her, getting her own shampoo, going for a walk, sitting in the grass! All of it made her happy but nothing had her happier than her boyfriend.

Sitting on the grass in the backyard of Dan and Shelby's house, Lizzie just stared up at the early morning sky. It had been nearly two weeks since her incident with Michael, since finding Justin, and she was feeling better than she had in a long time. There were people who cared about her, insisted she ate more than once a day and made sure she took the medicine to help the pain that was still in her chest from the bruised ribs and her broken wrist. They made sure she was taken care of, something she wasn't use to at all. She hadn't realized how much she'd missed being taken care of until being surrounded by people who insisted up doing just that! It was strange for her. Incredibly strange but nice at the same time.

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath of the fresh air she decided it was time to go inside, pushing up onto her feet in a way that she had learned didn't hurt her ankle. Justin was letting her get away with not wearing it since her limp had gone away so she was intent on keeping it that way. Lizzie, someone who had rarely cared what she looked like before, now cared if she was wearing a gigantic boot or if her eyes were swollen and bruised. Justin deserved her at her best and not only did Justin deserve that, Lizzie deserved that. Brushing off the back of her jeans she made her way into the house, smiling at Shelby in her office when she passed by the slightly opened door. The house had been asleep when Lizzie had first woken to go outside, maybe the growing baby or work had woken the other woman up. Not wanting to bother her she just kept walking back towards the bedroom, quietly opening and shutting the door behind her so as not to wake Justin. He had still been sleeping when she'd crawled out of bed to go enjoy the sunrise and she hoped he had stayed that way. She had left a little note though, right by his phone in case he had awoken while she was gone.

The last thing she could remember was her boyfriends fist flying through the air towards her face for the fifth or sixth time, she couldn't exactly remember. After the second hit she'd stopped focusing on counting and instead put all her efforts towards protecting herself from the angry blows headed in her direction. This time around she wasn't even sure what she'd done to supposedly deserve it, Michael had just barged into the apartment, smelling like cheap scotch and beer, hollering about one thing or another in his slurred language.

Raising her head up off the floor, eyes blinking rapidly to try and relieve the sting behind them, Lizzie was attempt to survey her surroundings. A large shape was slumped across the couch, shallow breathing typical of being passed out heard throughout the room. Slowly pushing herself up off the floor Lizzie tried not to make any sound, the pain coursing through her body almost too much to bear this time around. Breathing hurt, blinking hurt, she swore her hair growing was hurting.

This was the end of it, the point that broke the final camel's back.

Staying as quiet as a mouse Lizzie rose to her feet with the help of a chair and the dining room table, needing something to lean against while figuring out the amount of pressure she could put on her ankle. Worrying little about shoes, clothing, or the smears of blood randomly covering her a slowly yet steady path was made towards the door, one eye staying on lump of a man who had drank enough to be in a near coma. If he woke up to see her trying to leave chances of her making it anywhere ever again were slim to none. Hand on the knob with still no sign of him stirring she slipped into the hallway, easing the door shut so no noise would be made.

It was then that she 'ran' in the only direction she knew would get her away from the horrors of that apartment. Hobbling down the stairs she wasn't thinking about where she was going, just that it was away from that door. Away from that jackass. With every step she took more pain was felt, tears flowing even more steady down her face even if she wouldn't make a sound to prove it. No sobs were escaping, just the water running down her cheeks. Before she knew it Lizzie found herself in the laundry room, the one that was just off the parking garage.

Slinking down the wall of the corner behind a set of washers, Lizzie hid her face against her arms. As the pain from moving even the slightest inch coursed through her body the tears ran freely down her face while she tried racking her brain for places she could go, people she could ask for help to get away from Michael, but there was no one. In the two years they'd been dating he'd somehow managed to get her to alienate everyone that had ever cared, anyone who had showed the smallest sign of having her best interest at heart had been pushed away.

And now she needed them more than ever.
